 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Remove/install

Slacken poly-V-belt (5) and remove.

 Do not remove fan.

Remove guide pulley (4).

Only if fitted.

 Bolt, guide pulley to carrier

Open cap on fuel tank and unscrew cap (6) on fuel filter (7).

 Through opening the cap on the fuel tank and the cap (6), the fuel flows out of the fuel filter (7) over the fuel return line back into the fuel tank.

Remove fuel line (2) at fuel pump (1).

 Collect escaping fuel in a suitable container.

Remove fuel pump (1).

 Collect escaping fuel in a suitable container.

 Installation: While fitting fuel pump (1), the driver (3) on the fuel pump (1) must not contact the dowel pin of the camshaft.

Install in the reverse order



Check

Start engine and perform an engine test run.

 Allow the engine to run at a higher engine speed.

If engine fails to start or only runs for a brief period:



Repeat starting procedure after a break of 2 minutes.

Check area around fuel pump (1) for leaktightness.

 Visual inspection.

Switch off engine.
