Check function of auxiliary brake valve

Shown on model 952.073

5.01 (V2)

Single-chamber compressed air reservoir (circuit 2, front axle)

5.01 (V4)

Single-chamber compressed air reservoir (circuit 4, auxiliary consumer)

Danger !

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check

1

Start engine and completely inflate air brake system with idle speed

2

Switch off ignition

3

Connect measuring hoses of test kit to test connections for left and right brake cylinder on front axle

Test kit

4

Completely vent compressed air from single-chamber compressed air reservoir (5.01 (V2)) of front-axle brake circuit

The location of the single-chamber compressed air reservoir (5.01 (V2) and 5.01 (V4)) can vary depending on the vehicle version involved.
Remove drain screw completely. The pressure displayed on pressure gauge 2 in the instrument panel must drop when the ignition is switched on.

5

Fully depress brake pedal and read off pressure values

The pressure gauge on the brake cylinder at the steering end must show a pressure of 1 to 2 bar.
The pressure gauge on the brake cylinder opposite the steering end must not show any pressure.

In the event of a deviation:

Check the connections for the compressed air lines from and to the auxiliary brake valve.

6

Release brake pedal

7

Completely vent compressed air from single-chamber compressed air reservoir (5.01 (V4)) of consumer circuit

The location of the single-chamber compressed air reservoir (5.01 (V2) and 5.01 (V4)) can vary depending on the vehicle version involved.
Remove drain screw completely.

8

Fully depress brake pedal and read off pressure values

The two pressure gauges on the brake cylinder on the front axle must not show any pressure.

In the event of a deviation:

Check the connections for the compressed air lines from and to the auxiliary brake valve.

9

Screw both drain screws on both single-chamber compressed air reservoirs (5.01 (V2) and 5.01 (V4)) back into place

10

Start engine and completely inflate air brake system with idle speed

11

Switch off ignition

12

Depress brake pedal

Both pressure gauges must show a pressure.
