Remove

Drain oil from rear axle

 Catch escaping oil.

Lock differential lock

 On axles with code (A71) Rear axle differential lock, apply compressed air to the differential lock.

Remove end cover (6)

Pull out rear axle shaft (8).

 approx. 170 mm



Remove propeller shaft (10)

 Only remove propeller shaft on drive flange (12), support propeller shaft.

Attach removal fixture to differential assembly (13)

Remove gearshift sleeve (2) from axle housing (4)

Only on axles with code (A71) Rear axle differential lock.

Install

Screw guide bolts into axle housing (4)

Guide bolts for installing differential assembly

Insert shift collar (2) into axle housing (4)

Only on axles with code (A71) Rear axle differential lock.

Install differential assembly (13)

 Grease four-point support (3) in axle housing.

Removal fixture for differential assembly HL 4

Lifter mounting adapter

Coat sealing surfaces on axle housing and on differential assembly with sealant.

Install rear axle shafts (8)

Install end covers (6)

 Use new serrated bolts (5) and new seal (7)

Release differential lock

Install propeller shaft (10)

 Use new hexagon nuts (11).
