1 Put thedigital depth gauge on the measuring cover in position at the end face of the outer race of the tapered roller bearing of the differential bearing and calibrate to 0.00 mm.
2 Detach the measuring cover from the rear axle housing (1).
T35.30-0113-01
3 Place the measuring cover on the measuring strip .
4 Put the digital depth gauge on the measuring cover in position at the measuring strip and read off dimension A.
5 Note the dimension A.
Dimension A is the dimension from the end face of the outer race of the tapered roller bearing of the differential bearing up to the flange-mounting surface on the rear axle housing (1).

6 Place the measuring strip on the flange-mounting surface on the portal housing (2).
7 Put the digital depth gauge in position from the measuring strip up to the flange-mounting surface on the portal housing (2) and calibrate to 0.00 mm.
8 Out the digital depth gauge in position from the measuring strip up to the contact surface of the outer race of the tapered roller bearing of the differential bearing on the portal housing and read off dimension B.
9 Note dimension B.

10 Calculate the required thickness of the shim (9) for the friction torque of the differential bearing
The required thickness of the shim (9) results from the difference between dimension B and dimension A. The shims (9) are available in graduations of 0.05 mm.
That shim (9) must be used the thickness of which comes closest to the difference between the dimension B and dimension A. This is the only way to ensure that the friction torque of the differential bearing is in the permissible range.
