1 Install dial indicator on dial indicator holder

2 Position the dial indicator holder on the portal housing and mount the tracer pin of the dial indicator under preload on the end face of the output gear of the portal axle drive.

3 Move the output gear of the portal axle drive to and fro axially using two offset screwdrivers .

4 Read off axial play on the dial indicator .

The axial play of the output gear of the portal axle drive is adjusted by installing the corresponding shim under the outer race of the tapered roller bearing of the output gear bearing in the brake carrier.
