When removing the drive gear and intermediate gears identify the installation position and assignment of separate parts.
Remove
1 Unscrew the bolts from the bearing bolts of the intermediate gears.
2 Screw adjuster screws into the bearing bolts.

3 Turn the portal axle housing (1) so that the flange mounting surface on the wheel hub side points upwards.
4 Drive out bearing bolts with a plastic mallet.

5 Remove existing intermediate gears in sequence. To do this, shift the drive gear diagonally slightly.
Remove the intermediate gears complete with tapered roller bearings. Pay attention to existing shims.
6 Remove drive gear.
Pay attention to existing separate parts and identify installation position.

Install
7 Position separate parts of drive gear bearing in the portal housing (1) by means of assembly device.
Observe correct installation position of separate parts.
When using the shim found beforehand during disassembly in our experience the required adjustment values result, however a check is imperative.
No shims are fitted on the version with disk springs as the axial play of the drive gear is specified by the disk springs.

8 Install circlip (2) in the groove (3) of the drive gear.
Check circlip (2) for correct seat by twisting.
9 Install drive gear in the portal housing (1) and remove the assembly device again in the process.
The drive gear must be installed with the circlip (2) towards the rear wheel hub.
10 Install intermediate gears.
For a better installation if necessary the drive gear should be pushed back until the installation of the separate parts is retained.

11 Align the drive pinion and intermediate gears centrally with the bearing holes
12 Insert new O-rings into the radial grooves (arrow) of the bearing bolts and grease with multipurpose grease.
12 Fasten shims to collar of bearing bolts with multipurpose grease.

13 Fix the intermediate gear in position by means of the bearing bolt.
Drive in bearing bolts until they abut and seal the end face side with sealing compound
14 Swivel portal housing (1) through 180°
15 Unscrew the adjuster screws from the bearing bolts.
16 Screw the screws into the bearing bolts and tighten .
