Remove/install rear axle shaft

Remove/install

Jack up vehicle at rear axle and place on axle stands

Drain oil from the rear wheel hub (2)

 Collect oil in suitable container. Observe disposal regulations.



Rear axle - oil change

Detach bearing cap (1) from rear wheel hub (2)

 Identify the installation position of bearing cap (1) relative to the rear wheel hub (2) beforehand

 Installation: Grease new seal lightly and insert in the bearing cap (1). Pay attention to overlap of oil bores of bearing cap (1) and rear axle shaft (3) .



Screw in suitable bolt (4) on the end face of the rear axle shaft (3)

Pull rear axle shaft (3) out of rear axle

 Identify the installation position of the rear axle shaft (3) relative to the rear wheel hub (2) beforehand

 Installation: Push in the rear axle shaft (3) all the way. Observe the marking for the installation position. The oil hole of the rear axle shaft (3) must be between the two threaded holes of the rear wheel hub (2).

Remove the radial shaft sealing ring of the rear axle shaft (3) from the axle tube

 Installation: Note installation position of radial shaft sealing ring
