1 Read off the variation number (C) of the pinion taper on the drive pinion or ring gear which has been removed.
2 Calculate thickness of the standard set of shims.
- If the value of the variation number (C) is positive (+) then it is to be subtracted from the thickness of the old shim set (for example see Table).
- If the value of the variation number (C) is negative (-) then it is to be added to the thickness of the old shim set (for example see Table).
3 Read off the variation number (C) of the pinion taper on the new drive pinion or ring gear.
4 Calculate thickness of the new set of shims.
- If the value of the variation number (C) is negative (-) then it is to be subtracted from the value of the thickness of the standard set (for example see Table).
- If the value of the variation number (C) is positive (+) then it is to be added to the value of the thickness of the standard set (for example see Table).
