Holding fixture
1 | To check the contact pattern, coat two teeth of the ring gear offset by 1800 degrees with paint. |
2 | Brake ring gear with holding device (01). |
3 | Turn drive pinion forwards and backwards. |

Generally an ideal contact pattern cannot be achieved in practice. However it is important that the contact pattern exhibits the position shown on the picture (towards the ring gear center) under drive and overrun. The tooth surface must not touch the outer edge at any point.
A | Correct tooth bearing |

Measure: Reduce installation distance (specified basic dimension) of the drive pinion slightly while simultaneously slightly increasing the installation distance of the ring gear. The ring gear teeth engage slightly less in the drive pinion teeth and the gear backlash is retained.
B | Load bearing at tooth crest (incorrect) |

Measure: Increase installation distance (specified basic dimension) of the drive pinion slightly while simultaneously slightly reducing the installation distance of the ring gear. The ring gear teeth engage slightly more in the drive pinion teeth and the gear backlash is retained.
C | Load bearing at tooth root (incorrect) |
