The calculation is based on the inner dimension of the housing and the height of the differential (measure basic dimension at differential). The value for the preload of the differential bearing must also be taken into account.
Example: Housing internal dimension 164,90 mm
Value for preload + 0.16 mm
Height of differential (without shims) - 154,10 mm
Difference dimension10,96 mm
To ensure that the gear backlash is achieved, select thinner shims for crown wheel side, e.g. for the value 10.96 mm:
Ring gear side 5.40 mm
Opposite 5,56 mm
A 1 mm thick shim corresponds to approx. 1.4 mm gear backlash.
The shims are available in thicknesses from 4.9 mm to 6.38 mm in graduations of 0.02 mm.
