1 With the aid of the threaded ring adjustment key (1), release the ring (2) until the axial play is found on the bearings. Then, gradually tighten the ring (3) until eliminating the play between the teeth of the hypoid pair (zero gear play).

The tightening should be gradual so that the ring does not press the bearing (cap and taper) after the crown touches the pinion.

2 Measure the distance between the pedestals of the bearing caps (diagonals A1 and A2), using a suitable micrometer, and record the values.

These measured values will be the benchmark to adjust the expansion of the bearing caps while adjusting the bearings preload.

3 Release the ring (3) until the original gear play is achieved, and gradually tighten the ring (2) to allow the preload of the bearings and, consequently, the expansion of the bearing caps to the prescribed dimension.

Take the measurements as the ring (2) is tightened, thus ensuring that the desired expansion is achieved.
