1 | Install the lock wrench (5) on the drive flange (2) and tighten the collar nut.. . |
Tighten the collar nut up to the prescribed torque and do not use any pneumatic tool for its tightening. |
2 | Continuously rotate the drive pinion a minimum of 10 times to seat the tapered roller bearings. |
3 | Re-tighten the collar nut. |
Tighten the collar nut up to the prescribed torque and do not use any pneumatic tool for its tightening. |
4 | Remove the locking key (5). |
5 | Install the torque wrench (4) with the adapter of the socket wrench (3) with the claw type wrench on the collar nut. |
6 | Manually rotate the torque wrench (4) a few times at the same time, read the rotational torque at constant rotating speed. |
Should the friction torque is higher or smaller than the prescribed amount, disassemble again the pinion again and fit a compensation washer as necessary. Repeat the operation as from step 1, until the specified value is obtained. |
The distance washer is supplied with a thickness of 1.60 mm with 0.01 mm increments up to a maximum of 2.50 mm. |
In axles with used bearings, a friction moment value close to the smallest prescribed value can be found, as the bearing has already seated. For axles with new bearings, a friction moment value close to the highest prescribed value can be found, as the bearing has yet to seat. |
7 | Reinstall the lock key (5) in the actuation flange (2) and re-tighten the collar nut. |
Tighten the collar nut up to the prescribed torque and do not use any pneumatic tool for its tightening. |
8 | Lock the collar nut. |
