Install the lock wrench (5) on the drive flange (2) and tighten the collar nut .
Tighten the collar nut to the specified torque and do not use any pneumatic wrench for its tightening.
2
Turn the pinion a few times for seating of the tapered roller bearings.
3
Install the torque meter (4) with the adapter of the socket wrench (3) in the collar nut of the drive flange (2).
4
Rotate the torque wrench (4) by hand, and read the turning torque at a constant speed of turning.
If the friction moment exceeds the specified value, use a bigger spacer washer. If the friction moment is less than the specified value, use a smaller spacer washer. Disassemble the pinion again to replace the spacer washer, repeating the operation, from step 1 on, until you obtain the specified value.
For the axlesHL6, the spacer washer is supplied with thickness from 1.60 mm, with increments of 0.05 mm, up to, at most, 2.60 mm.
In axles with used bearings, a friction moment value close to the smallest prescribed value can be found, as the bearing has already seated. For axles with new bearings, a friction moment value close to the highest prescribed value can be found, as the bearing has yet to seat.
