Drain oil

Detach and remove cover (1)

Remove both joint housings with drive shaft

Remove bearing bracket (2)

 Mark bearing bracket (2), shims and bearing outer races.

Remove differential assembly (3)

 Mount spreader onto the axle housing and spread until the differential assembly (3) can be removed.



Checking

Clean/check parts and replace if necessary

 Disassemble differential assembly (3) if necessary:



Install

Measure shims of differential assembly (3)

 Only after replacing parts of the differential assembly (3). Carry out the measurement analog to the rear axle measurement.

Install differential assembly (3)

 Install thinner shim on the ring gear side.

Align bearing caps and bearing rollers by settling blows on the ring gear and rotate the ring gear several times at the same time.



Checking friction torque of tapered roller bearings

 Carry out test analog to the rear axle test.

Measure gear backlash and adjust if necessary

 Carry out the measurement and adjustment analog to the rear axle.

 Pay attention to the markings on the bearing brackets (2), spacer washers and bearing outer races.


