Detach front wheel and tire assembly



Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary

Remove the front and central sections of the lower engine compartment paneling

Remove/install bottom engine compartment paneling

Unscrew nut from steering knuckle at top (3)

 Self-locking nut, suspension strut to steering knuckle at top

Take out bolt (4)

 The bolt and nut without collar must be replaced. The washers are discontinued. Tightening torque only valid for threaded connection with collar.

Remove bolts from steering knuckle at bottom (5)

 Self-locking bolt, suspension strut to steering knuckle at bottom

Unscrew nut (1)

 Self-locking nut, strut rod to steering knuckle

Press ball stud (2) out of steering knuckle

Unscrew nut (8)


The bolt (9) must not be twisted. It is essential to counterhold the bolt (9) when loosening the nut (8).
Otherwise the fixing lugs for the caster adjustment in the elastomer bearing will be sheared off when the repair kit is fitted.

 Installation: Only tighten nuts and screws/bolts of suspension components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.

Unscrew oil cooler bolts at top and bottom

Remove/install engine oil cooler

 Do not remove the complete fender liner.

Remove bolt (9)

Lever strut rod (10) out of front axle carrier (11) using assembly lever and remove



Check

Check strut rod (10) for visible damage or deformation and replace if necessary

Check rubber boots on elastomer bearing (12) for damage

 The rubber boots should be retrofitted to protect the elastomer bearings (12).

If necessary, replace or retrofit rubber boots:



Remove/install rubber boots on rubber mount

Check elastomer bearings (12) of strut rod (10) for damage

If necessary, replace elastomer bearings:



Press torque strut rubber bushing in/out
