Determine shim

Use  strip clamps (1) to preload bearing outer race (5) while turning drive shaft (4) several times.

Loosen both screws  of strip clamps (1) again and then tighten to specified tightening torque.  

Measure distance (A) between face of bearing outer race (5) and separating surface of transmission housing using  dial indicator holder (3) and  dial indicator (2) at two opposite points. Calculate the average value of these two distances (A).

Insert existing shim (6) into bearing cap (7).

Measure distance (B) between separating surface of bearing cap (7) and shim (6) using  dial indicator holder (3) and  dial indicator (2) at two opposite points. Calculate the average value of these two distances (B).

Calculate the difference between the average value of distance (A) and the average value of distance (B).  

 Distance (B) must be equal to or smaller than distance (A) according to the adjustment value specified in the table. If there is a deviation, insert suitable shim (6) into bearing cap (7).
