Dial indicator holder
1 | Carefully clean contact surface for dial indicator holder on transfer case (1). |
2 | Fit clamping tool to transfer case (1). |
3 | Tighten center bolt (arrow) of clamping tool to 30 Nm, slacken then tighten again to 30 Nm while continuously turning the gears and shafts. Repeat this procedure 3 times. |
To turn the gears and shafts when a transmission is installed, the rear axle must be lifted up on one side, a low gear must then be engaged, the clutch depressed by a second person and the propeller shaft between engine and transmission turned by hand. The engine may not be started here. |
4 | Measure and note the depth of the bearing shell using dial indicator holder and dial indicator at two opposite positions. |
5 | Using calculation formula, determine the mean value from the two noted-down values and note down. |
G26.50-3181-01
Calculation formula:
(Measurement 1 + measurement 2) : 2 = mean value
(___________ mm + __________ mm) : 2 = ______ mm
Example calculation:
(2.33 mm + 2.37 mm) : 2 = 2.35 mm
Mean value A = 2.35 mm
The dimensions cited in the calculation example are standard dimensions. To determine the mean value, use the actual values only.
6 | Detach clamping tool from transfer case (1). |
7 | Calculate thickness of shims to be installed.Transmission 718.840/841 |
Incorporating the constants of 0.32 mm sets the end play between the tapered roller bearing and the bearing cap or the auxiliary transmission to the mean value. |
Calculation formula:
Mean value - constants = difference
___________ mm - 0.32 mm = ______ mm
Example calculation:
2.35 mm - 0.32 mm = 2.03 mm
In this example, the difference is 2.03 mm and shims with a total thickness of 2.05 mm should be installed.
The dimensions specified in the calculation example (except the dimension of the constant) are standard dimensions. Use only the actual values when determining the shims.
