A Setback of drive gear to drive shaft

1 | Remove oil pump | ||
2 | Measure axial play of oil pump gears (3, 4) | Fit dial gage (7) and dial gage holder (8) onto the oil pump housing (5). Position tracer pin onto the shaft of an oil pump gear with a preload. Move shaft up and down and read off measurement. Repeat measurement at the other oil pump gear. If the specification is exceeded | |
Replace or repair oil pump | |||

3 | Take off cover (2) | Do not damage sealing surface. | |
4 | Take driven oil pump gear (3) out of the oil pump housing (5) | ||
5 | Use a suitable drift to press driving oil pump gear (4) out of the drive gear (6) | ||
6 | Check oil pump gears (3, 4), inside areas of oil pump housing (5) and cover (2) for wear | If surface grooves or wear are present | |
replace parts or oil pump. | |||

7 | Insert driving oil pump gear (4) into oil pump housing (5) | ||
8 | Insert driven oil pump gear (3) into the oil pump housing (5) | ||
9 | Inspect backlash of oil pump gears | ||

10 | Screw cover (2) tight | | |
11 | Press drive gear (6) onto the drive shaft | Heat drive gear to about 80 °C. Pay attention to setback. It must be possible to easily rotate the drive gear. | |
