A Engine brake shaft axial play
| Disassemble | ||
| Remove engine brake flap fitting (1)
| Remove engine brake cylinder (13) | Remove retainer (18).
| Detach adjustment lever (9)
| Detach bracket (6) | ||
| Remove injection nozzle for exhaust aftertreatment system | Engine 900, 924.923/931
| Remove engine brake valve (4) | Close engine brake flap (4) for this step.
| Remove engine brake shaft (3) and bearing bushings (2) | Use a suitable drift.
| Assembly | ||
| Install bearing bushing (2) on side of bracket | With a protrusion of about 3 mm to the inner attachment face. Use a suitable drift. Coat bearing point with paste.
| Insert engine brake flap (4) into the engine brake flap connection (1) and push engine brake shaft (3) through | Coat bearing point with paste.
| Knock in second bearing bushing (2) | Center the engine brake shaft (3) to the flap fitting dia. The projection of both bearing bushings (2) to the inner contact surface must be the same. Use a suitable drift.
| Knock back bearing bushings (2) evenly on both sides and sufficiently until axial play (A) of engine brake shafts (3) is achieved | Check engine brake shaft axial play (A) using a feeler gauge. Use a suitable drift.
| Tighten down engine brake flap (4) | The screw heads of the bolts (5) must point towards engine when engine brake flap (4) is closed. Center engine brake flap (4) in engine brake flap connection (1). Engine brake flap (4) must be resting against flap connection stop in the closed position.
| Measure annular gap on engine brake flap (4) using a feeler gauge | Engine brake flap (4) must not be touching flap connection passage radially in the closed position.
| Install injection nozzle for exhaust aftertreatment system | Engine 900, 924.923/931
| Attach bracket (6) | ||
| Install adjusting lever (9) | Mount adjustment lever (9) on to the splines of the engine brake shaft (3) so that the adjustment lever stop is resting against the bracket (6) when the engine brake flap (4) is fully opened (position B).
| Check setting of engine brake valve (4) | When the engine brake flap (4) (position C) is closed, the adjustment lever stop must not be resting against the bracket (6) (distance of about 1 mm).
| Install engine brake cylinder (13) | Install new nut (14).
| Set pretension of engine brake cylinder (13) and install retainer (18) | When engine brake flap is opened (4, position B), turn the ball socket (11) [about 2 revolutions] until the specified setting is achieved.
Pay attention to adjustment dimension of engine brake cylinder (13).
| Install engine brake flap connection (1) |
