 Danger !

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove

Raise vehicle with vehicle lift

Remove expansion rivet (1) and take off the belt drive cover (2)

Counterhold belt tensioner (3), loosen screw/bolt (4) and carefully unfasten belt tensioner (3) from the timing case cover (6) using a suitable screwdriver

 Remove screw/bolt (4) only until the stud (arrow A) of the belt tensioner (3) is exposed from the timing case cover (6).

 The stud (arrow A) is only installed for the old version of the belt tensioner (3). The stud (arrow A) is dispensed with for the new version of the belt tensioner (3).

Counterhold coolant pump belt pulley (7) and remove screw/bolts (8)



Take off belt pulley of coolant pump (7)

Remove poly-V belt (5)



Check

Check whether the starter-alternator (M1/10) can clearly noticeably be moved axially and vertically in the timing case cover (6)

For vehicles with an old version of the starter-alternator (M1/10) and old bearing design

 The old bearing design is recognizable on the screw/bolt (9).

Replace the bearing system for the starter-alternator (M1/10) if necessary.



Remove/install starter-alternator (M1/10)

Install

Place poly-V belt (5) on starter-alternator belt pulley (M1/10) and lead over the crankshaft belt pulley

 Note installation position of poly-V belt (5).

Mount coolant pump belt pulley (7) and fasten with screw/bolts (8)

 Note installation position of poly-V belt (5).

Tension the belt tensioner (3) in the direction on the arrow all the way (arrow C) (counterclockwise) and tighten screw/bolt (4).


Ensure that the stud (arrow A) engages correctly in the bore in the timing case cover (6).
The timing case cover (6) can get damaged otherwise.

 The stud (arrow A) is only installed for the old version of the belt tensioner (3). The stud (arrow A) is dispensed with for the new version of the belt tensioner (3).

 If a new belt tensioner (3) was installed then it must be tightened counterclockwise. Here one should ensure that the bulge on the belt tensioner (3) coincides with the bulge on the timing case cover (6). The bulge on the belt tensioner (3) is located in the area of the stop (arrow C).
