Remove/install valve springs and valve stem seals

 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing engine oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

Remove

1

Place cylinder head on an even surface and clamp.

 Nozzle holder assembly must be removed.

Insert  adapter (2) into  assembly cartridge guide (1) and tighten.

  Adapter (2) secures  assembly cartridge guide (1) in bore of nozzle holder assembly.

Mount  assembly cartridge guide (1) on cylinder head.

Insert  sleeve (3) into  assembly cartridge guide (1) and align  assembly cartridge guide (1).

Tighten  assembly cartridge guide (1) with  screw (4).

Release conical valve keepers by gently tapping with  punch-in drift (5) on valve spring retainer.

Screw  detent part (6) into  assembly cartridge guide (1).

Insert  assembly cartridge guide (7) into  sleeve (3).

Attach  thrust fork (8) with installed  extension to  detent part (6) and mount on  assembly cartridge (7).

Slightly press  thrust fork (8) downward (arrow B) and hold.

Turn  screw (7.1) clockwise (arrow A) until inner split tips of  assembly cartridge (7) tangibly engage between conical valve keepers.

Press  thrust fork (8) downwards until end stop.

 During this process, conical valve keepers are pressed into  assembly cartridge (7) and removed.

Carefully move  thrust fork (8) upwards and release tension of valve spring (11).

  Assembly cartridge (7) and  sleeve (3) are pressed upwards by valve spring (11).

Detach  thrust fork (8) at  detent part (6) and remove.

Remove  assembly cartridge (7) with  sleeve (3) from  assembly cartridge guide (1).

Remove valve spring retainer (10) and valve spring (11) with  magnetic pin.

Pull  screw (7.1) at  assembly cartridge (7) upwards and remove conical valve keepers (9) from  assembly cartridge (7).

Remove valve stem seal (12) using  pliers (13).

Perform operation steps 4 to 18 on remaining valve springs (11) and valve stem seals (12) at this cylinder head in the same manner.

Remove  assembly cartridge guide (1) with  detent part (6) and  sleeve (3).

Only in case of additional work on cylinder head.

Release cylinder head.

Only in case of additional work on cylinder head.

Install

Place cylinder head on an even surface and clamp.

Only after additional work on cylinder head.

Mount  assembly cartridge guide (1) with  detent part (6) and  sleeve (3) on cylinder head.

Only after additional work on cylinder head.

Using  sleeve (3), align  assembly cartridge guide (1) and tighten with  screw (4).

Only after additional work on cylinder head.

Insert support disk (16) in cylinder head.

Only if support disk (16) is removed.

Wet  sleeve (17) with clean engine oil and slide over valve stem.

Slide new valve stem seal (12) onto  sleeve (17) and press onto valve guide (18) using  punch-in drift (5).

Carefully continue punching with  punch-in drift (5) until valve stem seal (12) is mounted in a planar condition.

Remove  punch-in drift (5) and  sleeve (17).

Check valve stem seal (12) for damage.

If damage is present,



Replace valve stem seal (12).

Insert valve spring (11) and valve spring retainer (10) into  assembly cartridge guide (1).

Pull  screw (7.1) upwards and insert both conical valve keepers (9) between tips in  assembly cartridge (7).

Insert  sleeve (3) with  assembly cartridge (7) into  assembly cartridge guide (1).

 Conical valve keepers (9) are clipped into  assembly cartridge (7).

Attach  thrust fork (8) with installed  extension to  detent part (6) and mount on  assembly cartridge (7).

Press  thrust fork (8) downwards (arrow C) until valve spring (11) is slightly pressed together and hold  thrust fork (8).

Pull  screw (7.1) upwards (arrow D) and hold.

Continue pressing  thrust fork (8) until end stop.

 Conical valve keepers (9) thus fall out of  assembly cartridge (7) between valve spring retainer (10) and valve stem.

Carefully move  thrust fork (8) upwards.

 Hold  screw (7.1) in this connection.

Remove  thrust fork (8).

Remove  assembly cartridge (7) with  sleeve (3).

Check that conical valve keepers (9) are firmly seated, repeat relevant operation step if necessary.

Perform operation steps 22 to 41 on remaining valve springs and valve stem seals at this cylinder head in the same manner.

 If necessary, realign  assembly cartridge guide (1) with  sleeve (3).

Remove  assembly cartridge guide (1) and  detent part (6).

Release cylinder head.
