Remove cylinder head covers

Attach set of hold-down tools to center camshaft bearing of the cylinder heads

 The set of hold-down tool assumes the function of the camshaft bearing and relieves the load on the camshaft brackets.

Remove fan unit

Insert guard plate on cooler



Detach charge air cooler and place with attached coolant lines to one side

Remove poly-V belt

Set piston on cylinder 1 to TDC (ignition TDC)

 Turn engine on vibration damper (1) in direction of engine rotation until the TDC markings (3) are located opposite to the camshafts. The bores in the camshaft sprockets must point in the direction of travel to the lefts and be flush with the upper edge of the cylinder head. Lock camshaft sprockets with retaining pins (4). The TDC marking on vibration damper (1) must be aligned with stay on timing case cover (2).

Check basic position of camshafts

If the basic position of the camshafts match each other or the basic position of the camshafts not to the crankshaft



Remove/install camshafts

Crank engine 2 times in direction of engine rotation

Check basic position of camshafts; re-adjust if necessary

Install in the reverse order
