Attach the dial indicator bracket to the cylinder 1 intake valve, and place the dial indicator with 3 mm preload onto the valve tappet.

Rotate the engine in the direction of rotation until a valve lift of 2 mm is displayed.


Replace timing chain

The engine must not be rotated on the camshaft. Do not rotate the engine backwards during the measurement.
Otherwise, measurement errors will occur.

In this position, the marking on the vibration damper (see table) (intake valve opens after top dead center) must match the TDC indicator on the timing case cover.

If there is a deviation of more than 4° KW, replace the timing chain.
