Removing

Disconnect ground cable of battery

Remove bottom engine compartment panel

Position piston of cylinder 1 at ignition TDC

 Crank engine at crankshaft, do not crank the engine at the bolt of the camshaft sprocket. Do not crank engine back.
 The position of the markings of camshaft/camshaft bearing cap (arrows) must be aligned.

Draw camshaft sprocket (4) and timing chain (3) to each other

Install retaining lock (7) for crankshaft/ starter ring gear

Remove chain tensioner (2)

Unscrew stretch bolt (12), take off thrust washer (13) and sealing ring (4)

Remove camshaft bearing caps (5)

 Pay attention to fitted sleeves (9)!
 Observe slackening diagram!



Take out camshaft (6) upwards

Remove circlip (14) for axial fastening device

 and check for damage and axial play



Installing

Oil camshaft (6)

Insert camshaft (6) in camshaft bearing

Insert circlip (14) for axial fastening device

Install camshaft bearing cap (5) with fitted sleeves (9)



 Observe tightening scheme!

Check stretch bolt (12) for elongation

 The stretch bolt must be replaced if the maximum elongation is exceeded,

Place camshaft sprocket (4) with timing chain on the camshaft (6)

 Observe marking!

Screw on camshaft sprocket (4) with stretch bolt (12) and washer (13)



Install chain tensioner (2)

Install retaining lock (7) for crankshaft/ starter ring gear

Inspect basic position of camshaft

Do this by rotating engine by two revolutions at the crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine and by positioning piston of cylinder 1 to ignition TDC.

The marking on the camshaft must coincide with the marking on the 1st camshaft bearing cap.

 Do not continue to turn the engine by force if its locks up.
