Determine crankshaft bearing axial play

Install  dial indicator holder (7) and  dial indicator (6) with preload on crankcase.

Using a suitable lever (1), press crankshaft onto front end stop of crankshaft thrust bearing cap (3) and hold. Set scale on  dial indicator (6) to "0".

Push crankshaft (1) onto the rear end stop of the crankshaft thrust bearing cap (3) and read off the measurement on the  dial indicator (6).  

 The measurement value from stop to stop gives the axial play.

Remove  dial indicator holder (7) and  dial indicator (6) from crankcase.
