Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near engine

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Open trunk lid

Remove side paneling in the right of the luggage compartment

 Remove side paneling from working area.



Check

Start engine

 Allow engine speed to run at idle speed (below 1000 rpm).

Measure voltage

 Use multimeter to measure voltage at the emergency start battery (2) and note value.

 The battery must be checked at a battery voltage < 12.2 V, see:





Press the activate button for the emergency start device

 The activate button for the emergency start device is located in the glove box on the right side.

 Enlist the support of a second assistant. The high current relay (1) must switch audibly when the activate button is pressed.

Measure voltage

 Use multimeter to measure the voltage again at the emergency start battery (2)The voltage must change positively or negatively depending on the charge level of the emergency start battery (2).

 The emergency start device is in order if the voltage changes. If no change in voltage occurs, establish and eliminate the cause subject to a separate repair order.

Install in the reverse order
