Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself. | |
1 | Start engine and move front wheels to straight-ahead position. | ||
2 | Check permissible play (A) at steering wheel | Turn steering wheel alternately to left and right until front wheels move. | |
Check steering gear and all steering transmission components for incorrect play subject to separate repair order. | |||
3 | Turn off engine | ||
4 | Check rubber boots (2) of drag link ends and tie rod ends | Check that the rubber boots (2) are firmly seated on the contact surface of the relevant control arm. Do not replace damaged or leaking rubber boots (2): | |
Replace appropriate ball head or, if necessary, change complete drag link (3) or tie rod (4), subject to separate repair order. | |||
5 | Check the drag link and tie rod end clearance individually by pulling and pushing firmly by hand in the axial direction of the ball pin | If the permissible axial play is exceeded: | |
Replace relevant drag link or tie rod ends subject to separate repair order. | |||
6 | Check steering gear pitman arm (1), drag link (3), tie rod (4) and steering knuckle arm (5) for damage and correct attachment | If damage or defects are found: | |
Rectify damage and defects subject to separate repair order. |
