After an APS navigation processor (A2/30) is installed, the display of the APS radio and navigation operating unit (A2/29) shows "Please contact workshop".
The system is commissioned with menu prompting. The APS cannot be used until it has been commissioned.
Commissioning has to take place in the open air.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is necessary to read the "Auto Pilot System" operating instructions in order to be able to correctly carry out the appropriate entries on the operating unit.

Entry / Procedure | Function |
1. Decoding APS radio and navigation operating unit | |
Switch on radio and navigation operating unit | Enter code as stated on system card (see "Auto Pilot System" operating instructions) |
2. Setting speaker system | |
Switch on ignition | |
Switch off APS radio and navigation operating unit (A2/29) | |
Press and hold RDS button and station button 5 at the same time and then press ON button | "LOUDNESS" menu is displayed |
Select existing system with cursor key and confirm with volume rotary control by pressing | Possible versions: a) STANDARD b) BOSE 4-CHANNEL (with sound system code 810) |
3. Loading language | |
Switch on APS radio and navigation operating unit (A2/29) | |
Insert navigation CD ROM into APS navigation processor (A2/30) and lock | Language loading commences |
It can take up to 20 minutes to load a language. The APS navigation processor (A2/30) reads the language information from the CD ROM and this information is saved in the memory. The loading process is not displayed. The announcement "The language has been loaded" indicates the completion of the process. If the APS is switched off during loading of the language, the language data are lost and have to be reloaded. | |
4. Selecting language | |
It is possible to choose between German and English for the language information. The selection procedure is described in the section Special Functions of the auto pilot system operating instructions. | |
5. Commissioning the factory software | |
Start vehicle in the open air (it is necessary to have the possibility of driving in a circle in the open air). | |
Switch off radio and navigation operating unit | |
Press buttons AM and 4 and switch on radio and navigation operating unit | APS installation and calibration program appears in the display |
Select factory software | |
Menu prompting is provided for the different program points | |
Note that in the program point "Wheel sensor pulses" it is necessary to drive the vehicle. The readout of the inner wheel must always be the smaller readout. | |
After having processed all the program points, switch off ignition. | |
If the factory software cannot be selected, proceed immediately with the service software | |
6. Commissioning the service software | |
Start vehicle in the open air (it is necessary to have the possibility of driving in a circle in the open air). | |
Switch off radio and navigation operating unit | |
Press buttons AM and 4 and switch on radio and navigation operating unit | APS installation and calibration program appears in the display |
Select service software | |
Select menu point "COMMISSIONING" with cursor key and confirm with the volume rotary control by pressing | In exceptional cases in which the vehicle does not have any GPS reception at that moment, a location question appears after the menu point "COMMISSIONING". This question should be answered as follows: ACT. LATITUDE = 11.1 ACT. LONGITUDE = 111.1 NORTHERN LATITUDE / SOUTHERN LATITUDE Select northern latitude and confirm. WESTERN LONGITUDE / EASTERN LONGITUDE Select eastern longitude and confirm. Select the respective digit with the cursor key and confirm by briefly pressing the volume control knob. If the volume control knob is pressed more than just briefly, the complete entry is confirmed. |
Switch on rear window defroster | Readout: "OK", confirm by pressing the volume control knob |

Follow the further instructions of the display and confirm accordingly | |
Compass calibration function | The circle to be driven may also be less than 20 m in diameter and be oval-shaped. The important point is that the starting and finishing points are identical. Before driving in a circle, select "START" and confirm. After completing the circle, select "STOP" and confirm. |
After completing compass calibration | Test operation of the auto pilot system during a road test. |
7. Wheel recalibration (is only required on models with special tire sizes) | |
It is necessary to calibrate the wheels when commissioning the system, after changing a tire or replacing the APS navigation processor (A2/30). In the case of new standard tires, it is sufficient to enter the tire type in the appropriate menu. In the case of tires with special sizes, the tire diameter is calculated by driving a calibration distance. The calibration distance should be longer than 100 m and as straight as possible. The lenght must be known exactly. | |
Start vehicle in the open air (the possibility must exist of driving in a circle in the open air) | |
Switch off radio and navigation operating unit | |
Press buttons AM and 4 and switch on radio and navigation operating unit | APS installation and calibration program appears in the display |
Select service software | |
Move forward in program to the subsequent menu screen "SELECT VEHICLE MODEL" | |
