AH01.40-B-0001-01A | Notes for assessing wear to cylinder wall in the case of dust damage | ENGINE all | |
B03.10-0010-01
Appearance of a cylinder without damage caused by impurities taken in
In a no-damage cylinder or cylinder liner, the signs of burnishing are visible on the entire inner surface except in the 1st piston ring reversing point area, where the burnishing may have been partially erased.
B03.10-0011-01
Appearance of a cylinder with damage caused by impurities taken in
In the case of damages caused by ingested impurities, the burnishing traces on cylinder internal surface are faded or no longer visible. At a later stage, harder wear can be noticed in the 1st piston ring reversing point area.
The main causes of wear by abrasion on pistons, cylinders or cylinder liners are; air cleaning deficiency caused by poor intake air piping tightness, damage or cracks on the flexible pipe, inadequate air cleaner maintenance, utilization of non original filtering elements or still vehicle operation in areas with high concentration of dust.
